Buller Day, 8th August 2009.

This year we had a great day . Falmouth had winning day but our U16s had a great win, well done to all!

The sun was shining, the sea was calm and the racing was great! Didn't get many pics as I was on the BBQ all day, I have one or two which I'll send on when I get the camera going.

Top 3’s – Vets : Falmouth/Cadgwith/Helford. U16s : Cadgwith, Helford, Truro. MensA : Falmouth, Flushing & Mylor, Padstow – great close finish between these two crews. LadiesA : Falmouth, Newquay, Padstow. U14s : Cadgwith, Porthleven, Coverack. MensB : Falmouth, Lizard, Newquay. LadiesB : Helford, Mounts Bay, Newquay.

A special thank you to certain people...

Slim and Sarah Legge on the start boat, I'm sure all the Ladies A crews won't forget Sarah telling everyone that she will NOT be starting the race until Newquay gets back!

Gwen Jane for her commentry all day, excluding the vets race when she raced and was part of the 1st full ladies vets crew over the line!

All the umpires which come from other clubs to help us out - there are too many of you to name personally, but you know who you all are!

All club members who helped out during the day with car parking, organising the boats, selling food and drink, bar and BBQ cooking (a special mention to Josh and Alex who spent 4 hours non stop on the BBQ).

Hopefully everyone enjoyed the day and thank you to everyone who turned up, rowed and supported us.

Racing atarted at Cadgwith Cove at 2pm, with the gig club running a BBQ and bar all day. No rain and a calm sea, unlike last year!

The order of races was as follows;

Vets
Under 16s
Mens A
Ladies A
Under 14s
Mens B
Ladies B
Mixed

Yours sincerely

Sam Jane

It would be appreciated if all gigs could follow the signs to Cadgwith and avoid the route through Ruan Minor (head towards the Lizard) Once at the top of the hill Cadgwith members will be on hand to organise the transportation of the gigs down the hill. Please wait until told to head into the cove as, most of you are aware, it will cause problems.

It would be appreciated if all rowers could follow the signs to Ruan Minor where we have managed to organise a field for parking. The field will be signposted and is situated at the top of the hill going into Cadgwith, a 5min walk to the Cove.

We are hoping that the weather is good to us this year and all visiting crews enjoy their time in Cadgwith. We will be running a BBQ and a bar throughout the day and a disco is planned for the evening. Unfortunately due to the space restrictions in the cove we will have to limit numbers so please let Sam know as soon as possible if you want to attend

PLEASE leave gigs in car park until instructed. Please contact us before bringing gigs to the village, so we can help. Travel info

The prize giving will be in the Gig shed where you will be welcome to stay for an evening of drinking and food, and hopefully some good entertainment.

Camping info:

Ron and Jo Lyne (Lizard Village) have contacted the Cadgwith Gig Club regarding their event this year.

A lot of crews camped at their campsite in Lizard village last year and the rowers appreciated their taxi run to Cadgwith. They would like to inform those rowers that spaces are getting booked up very fast so if you intend to return this year please let them know as soon as possible. Their phone number is 01326 290596
PLEASE BOOK IN ADVANCE

Peter and Tony night 2002

You just have to read this..

Loosing the Cox on a buoy turn!!!

and "rowing with French sticks"

lol

This is held every year to commemorate the lives of two local fishermen lost at sea. This years event was a bit unique with the leading men in the Rose losing a cox overboard on the last buoy turn. The Rose however still won coxless leaving Buller and Socoa to chase them. Well done boys.

The womens (with a few men) wasn't quite as exciting. Buller lead up to the first mark but eventually came second to the Rose. The excuses coming from the crew in Rose included, thanks to Mike "we may as well have been rowing with french sticks rather than these oars", "they have a lighter boat" "more men". ETC ETC
