Cadgwith gig club enjoyed a sucessful weekend on the isles of scilly during the world pilot gig championships.

Cadgwith gig club took a total of six crews to the world pilot gig championships on the Isles of Scilly. Due to the hard work of members over the winter months on boat maintenance, led by Diddy Holyer, the clubs second best boat, Buller, was lighter than usual and used by the veterans and A crews as the main racing gig over the weekend. The best result of the weekend came from the ladies veterans crew, crossing the line in 11th place out of 38.

The mens veterans also had a good result of 12th out of the largest ever veterans field of 58 crews.

The rest of the weekend saw good racing with the ladies A crew holding their own in group C finishing the championships in 30th place. The mens A, after a good St.Agnes race on the first day began in group B but dropped on the Sunday morning, finishing in 26th place. The ladies B had some close racing in their group finishing with 17 boats behind them in 89th place. The two ladies crews had some competitive racing coming out on top of respective local rivals Penryn and Coverack.

The mens B squad, finishing in 59th, made the most of the Scillonian hospitalitly in the pubs over the weekend. The ladies crews indulged in the tradition of mooring up on the finish line after the final and polished off several well earned bottles of champagne whilst watching Falmouth romp home to another victory.

The culmination of the weekend was the sunday evening club meal where the sunburnt rowers, families and supporters gathered in the scillonian club to celebrate a successful weekend.
